With the developments achieved in the last twenty years, Turkish ciothing industry has become the second biggest ciothing supplier in the world. in this period, in the macro economic environment in Turkey, the sector has continuously been in a pioneer and leader position in the areas of exports, investments, production and empioyment. The ciothing sector had to deal with international competition first and most strongiy. With the international competition faced in this period, the sector has accumulated very important and valuable experience. Following this development phase, Turkish ciothing sector is about to move on to a new phase. in the life curve of global ciothing industry, Turkish clothing sector faces the need to carry itself to a new global position. The pressure of competition in the group of supplier countries and the new world trade order after January 1, 2005 are the two most important factors that created this need.
Within this frame and with medium term changes, Turkish ciothing industry has to carry itself from the group of supplier countries to the group of market-maker countries. Global Repositioning in the Turkish Clothing Sector study has been prepared with this purpose; it is based on the “Horizon 2010” project deciared in March 2003 by TCMA and the objective is to create a road map especially for the sector and businesses. The study envisages a medium term, planned change and it is made up of two sections. The first section is about new local and global positioning for Turkish clothing sector. in the second section, the road map is drawn for the businesses to follow for this new positioning and structure.
